FAMILY ASSESSMENT

Family Assessment

A Warm Welcome to Foundations®

At Foundations® Family Assessment Centres we understand that coming into an assessment can feel overwhelming. That’s why, from the moment families arrive, our focus is on making them feel comfortable, safe and supported.

Every family is unique, and every assessment is carefully planned around their individual circumstances, needs and strengths. Our approach combines support and assessment, creating an environment where parents and children can feel settled while families are given the opportunity to demonstrate their parenting abilities.

We provide a calm, nurturing environment where parents and children can settle and feel secure. Our role is to give families the space and support they need to demonstrate their parenting, while offering guidance that can help them grow in confidence and develop new skills.

Supportive care and family wellbeing

Who We Help

We work with families at different stages and with a wide range of needs.

Family support and wellbeing

This includes:

  • Parents aged 16 and over, with babies and children aged 0–10.

Parents who may be managing challenges such as:

  • Learning or communication difficulties
  • Emotional or behavioural difficulties
  • Experiences of domestic abuse
  • Mental health needs
  • Physical disabilities
  • Substance misuse

Children who may have:

  • Developmental, emotional or behavioural needs
  • Learning or communication difficulties
  • Physical disabilities

Every referral is risk assessed in partnership with the Local Authority and wider multi-disciplinary team. We also consider planned moves, where parents arrive before their child, so they can settle and begin to build positive relationships with our team.

How We Work With Families

We take a thoughtful, individual and evidence-based approach, ensuring every family receives the right support throughout the assessment process.

01

Individual planning before arrival

We carefully review each referral to make sure the placement is the right fit for the family and for other families at the centre. Where another approach, such as fostering or community-based support, may be more suitable, we’ll be open and honest about that.

02

Tailored support

We adapt our approach to meet the individual needs of each family, including young parents, families with learning or communication needs, and those who may need extra support with language or understanding.

03

Fair and transparent assessments

Families receive regular updates throughout the assessment, and reports are written clearly so that parents understand what is happening at every step.

04

Evidence-based assessments

Our assessment reports are evidence-based and outcome-focused, addressing the key objectives set by the Local Authority. Through clear analysis, balanced conclusions and robust recommendations, we provide decision-makers with the information they need to plan the next steps. All reports are subject to rigorous quality assurance.

If you would like more information about our referral process, to arrange a visit, or to discuss a placement, please follow our referral process.
